India: 28 June – 14 July, 2015

Our July 2015 trip to India was a success. This was our fifth visit and we were so excited to see how the Indian teachers are grasping the training we have given. We have now built a strong bond of trust and a real sense of family with our Indian colleagues we work with.

Spend “summer” in India. On our 5th visit to India we will build on the training that has taken hold in the 7 schools we support there. We will work in New Delhi & Dehradun. We will continue training in numeracy, literacy, integration of curriculum, classroom behavior and phonics. We will also focus on the leadership in the schools. We will spend 6 days at the Himalayan Torchbearers Centre doing our main training, and then send team-members out to the individual schools to work alongside teachers in their classrooms, modeling & mentoring. We also find time to enjoy the Taj Mahal, Delhi markets and delicious food.

We will hopefully will be able to send a large team so we can buddy one RATA teacher up with each of the 7schools we work with. This year we will continue to entrench the teaching we have already given in numeracy, literacy, integrating the curriculum, classroom behavior, and phonics. Hopefully we also will have a strong leadership focus as we work beside the leaders of the seven schools. After spending six days at the Torchbearer Center delivering training we will try and split the team up into spending time in each of the schools we can access, to model what we have been teaching and to mentor the teachers we have been working beside. As always, the Taj, Delhi and the amazing food of India will be up for grabs. Just also a word of encouragement from our previous visits: no RATA teacher has ever got Delhi Belly – in fact eating the local food has been a real highlight.
